Murder Mystery Dinner Theater in Blacksburg
We are excited to host a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater brought to you by the New River Stage this October! Killer Cloggers is a play within a play. A crumbling writer has written a show that is also now crumbling. Actors are quitting at the last minute, other actors are getting tired of his antics, and last-minute (substandard) replacements are being signed on. Things get worse when, in the course of the murder mystery, actual murders begin to take place.
4th Annual Pretty In Pink Fundraiser in Downtown Blacksburg
Pretty in Pink is a Downtown Fundraiser for the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation. This year the event will take place on Thursday, October 25th from 10:00am – 10:00pm. All proceeds will be donated to the Foundation. Look for Downtown Blacksburg to be decorated with pink ribbons for the event.
A progressive afternoon and evening of shopping and dining is planned with a Breast Cancer Awareness Literature Booth Silent Auction and DJ Kerri Taylor with Music for the Tatas. A Pink Ladies Wine Tasting Event will take place at Gourmet Pantry. Kent Jeweler’s & Next Door Bake Shop will sell cupcakes for $5 – all containing a genuine gemstone. One lucky cupcake will have a diamond hidden under the icing.

Blacksburg Startup Weekend begins Friday, September 14, 2012. Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations.

32nd Annual Steppin’ Out

pin’ Out was voted the Best Community Event in the Roanoke Time’s Best of 2012. Be sure to mark your calendars and attend the 32nd annual street festival August 3 & 4, 2012 from 10am until 10pm. The Main Stage will keep the entertainment going until 11pm on Friday night with the Zydeco party. Browse at the tables of more than 150 vendors from around the country selling handmade art, jewelry, furniture, toys, gourmet foods, pottery, and more. There will also be plenty of performances to keep you entertained including Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience, The Floorboards, Underhill Rose, the Electric Woodshed, the Back Porch Studio Cloggers, and the Kindle Bellydancers to name a few. Everyone should visit Blacksburg, Virginia this Holiday Season! The Town of Blacksburg has multiple events to celebrate Christmas and the Holidays. One of the most notable events this Holiday Season is the annual Holiday Parade and Winter Lights Festival, taking place Friday, December 2nd in Market Square Park and the surrounding downtown Blacksburg, Virginia area. This particular day is filled with several events all of which build up to the lighting of the tree in the middle of downtown Blacksburg and a Holiday Parade down Main Street.
From 4 to 7pm, the Town of Blacksburg will host a Holiday Gift Market in Market Square Park. The typical Blacksburg Farmer’s Market will have a fun Christmas twist, including different holiday treats for sale as well as free hot cider and hot chocolate provided by local downtown merchants. Also during that time, from 4 to 5:30pm, The Lyric Theatre will host Pictures with Santa, asking guests to provide their own camera. Then, at 5:30pm, on the corner of main street and alumni mall, the Town of Blacksburg will light a tree in town center with festive lights that will be present throughout the rest of the Holiday Season.
Following the lighting of the tree in Market Square Park, everyone will get to experience the sounds of TubaChristmas!! This annual musical event takes place all over the world including Blacksburg, Virginia. All Tuba, Sousaphone, Baritone and Euphonium players in the area can participate and many of the players that participate in Blacksburg TubaChristmas are members of the Virginia Tech Marching Band, better known as the Marching Virginians. Finally, the night is finished with a holiday parade, consisting of various local company floats, local Blacksburg restaurants, carolers, high school bands and even our very own Holiday Inn float!
Throughout the rest of the month, the Town of Blacksburg has planned events ranging from holiday shopping to different Christmas charity events. Here are a few events that shouldn’t be missed:
